In Barcelona live and work great singers, such as tenor Jose Carreras and soprano Montserrat Caballe. The song "Barcelona", performed by Montserrat Caballe and Freddie Mercury, was the anthem of the Olympic Games in 1992.

Its residents prefer to speak Catalan. But as Barcelona is a major tourist destination, lots of local people speak English, French or German. All public signs, signboards and official documents in Barcelona are in two languages: Castilian and Catalan.
